Bhopal 18 June 2017 –
The Central has immediately sanctioned the proposals of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to ensure remunerative prices to the farmers. This will bring about relief to the farmers.

It was quickly responded and NAFED has made all arrangements for purchasing moong and onions are being purchased at Rs. 8 per kg. so as to avoid loss.
The Chief Minister briefed the Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh about the scenario in the state saying that bumper crop slashed the prices. The prices of onions have gone down drastically in Madhya Pradesh and onions are sold at low prices in the markets. Farmers are facing heavy losses. With this background in view, the proposal for Market Intervention S\scheme for purchasing onion has been immediately sanctioned. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan says that “he is ready to take all the measures in the interest of farmers which would ensure remunerative prices to them. In furuture, strategies would be outlined in such a manner that farmers do not suffer losses.”
What is the MIS?
It is worth mentioning that the Government of India has a unique initiative – Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to give remunerative prices to the farmers. Under this, if the prices of yields increase or decrease more than 10% then intervention is made on request of State Government for purchasing of produces for which the minimum support price is not declared.
Under this scheme, the State and Central have to bear the burden of losses on equal basis. Recently, MIS brought relief to farmers in U.P. (potato), Andhra Pradesh, Telangana (chilli), Tamilnadu (Palm oil), and Karnataka (beetle nut).
Madhya Pradesh and the Centre will share the financial burden so that farmers get reasonable prices. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation immediately implemented the Market Intervention Scheme to buy such agricultural and horticultural produces.
